ENJEUX ET DIFFICULTES DU PATRIMOINE NATUREL ET CULTUREL CAMEROUNAIS : CAS DES REGIONS DU CENTRE, DU SUD ET DE L’EST (Sud-Cameroun forestier)

Abstract

In developed and developing countries, natural and cultural heritage are used for various purposes. On the one hand, they can help in consolidating political interest or serve as a source of social cohesion while on the other hand, they can serve as a source of economic development and landscape management.
In Cameroon, despite the presence of rich material and immaterial [architectural structures, festivals etc.] and natural [dense forests, parks, lakes, cultural sites etc] heritage, the Centre, South and East regions remain relatively unpopular compared to the other regions. Evidence from the field reveal various difficulties encountered in managing these resources as well as their conservation and valorisation. Moreover, beyond political, social and economic setbacks are other difficulties linked to the exploitation of these legacies. As a way forward, this article suggests some pathways to improve on the field situation.

Résumé

RESUME Le patrimoine naturel et culturel revêt dans la plupart des pays développés ou en voie de l’être des intérêts diversifiés. Tantôt au service d’une certaine consolidation des régimes politiques en place, tantôt source de cohésion sociale ou encore au service du développement économique et de l’aménagement des territoires.
Au Cameroun, les régions administratives du Centre, Sud et Est, nonobstant leur riche potentiel patrimonial matériel et immatériel (édifices architecturaux, festivals etc.) et naturel (forêt dense, parcs, lacs, paysages culturels etc.), restent relativement peu connues comparées à celles des autres régions du pays. Les enquêtes menées dans ces régions‭ mettent en exergue de nombreuses difficultés ‬tant sur le plan la gestion de ce potentiel, qu’en ce qui concerne sa conservation et sa valorisation. Ainsi, au delà des ‬enjeux (politiques, ‭sociaux et ‬économiques‭) et des difficultés liées à l’exploitation de ce patrimoine, cet article propose quelques pistes pour tenter de remédier à la situation.‬‬‬
